There’s nothing like a real wedding to help inspire your wedding planning and Off To Wed is so pleased to share these beautiful wedding photographs from Alyssa & Jeff’s wedding, photographed by Manifesto photography.
WHERE DID YOU GET MARRIED AND WHAT WAS SPECIAL ABOUT IT?
Sprucewood Shores Estate Winery
Sprucewood was the second place we visited when choosing our venue, and as soon as we saw it we could picture our wedding there.
It is such a beautiful winery because it has a little bit of everything. It’s right by the lake, it has large property which served as a wonderful cocktail hour spot for our lawn games and outdoor martini bar, and the reception room is a perfect mix of rustic meets elegance.
WHEN DID YOU GET MARRIED AND WHY?
July 4, 2015.
July 4th was a date that I (bride) lost my father to his long time battle with cancer when I was 9 years old. I have spent every year on that date always cherishing life and doing things he would have loved to do if he were able to do them. One of his favourite things were water, and sipping on a martini. So we chose July 4th as a perfect way to honour that. We even got to “cheers” to him in heaven at the water right after our ceremony. July 4th is a date we chose to celebrate life, and especially our love.
WHAT WAS THE WEATHER LIKE ON YOUR WEDDING DAY?
We really lucked out with weather! The weekend before our wedding was REALLY rainy, and the weekend after was really hot. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect. If it had rained though, our venue had a back up plan for us and we would have had just as awesome of a day too!
TELL US HOW YOU MET AND THE PROPOSAL?
We met through a mutual friend at a party a few years before we ever hung out again or dated. One day we decided to go for coffee. After a few coffee dates we really hit it off and we were inseparable!
We arranged to have a friend/photographer meet us at the park one weekend with our dog to take some current photos together. The friend/photographer told us to [walk] up ahead a bit so he could get some shots at a distance with the scenery in the background. On this beautiful bridge we were standing on he started talking about how much I meant to him, and how he knew I was the one when we had met… and then got down on one knee! Jeff knows how much I LOVE to capture beautiful memories; so having this moment photographed was such a perfect way to propose to me!
WHAT WAS THE MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT DURING THE WEDDING?
There were so many memorable moments of our day it would be hard to choose! The top of the list for us would be our “first look”. Seeing each other for the first time that day was so special and exciting! We kept every element of our details (my dress, his suit, my hair, and accessories) a secret from each other until that moment. It was an awesome surprise! Also, sneaking away during dinner to get some sunset photos at the beach. We got to walk in the sand, and enjoy a few moments alone.
WERE THERE ANY INTERESTING OR FUNNY MOMENTS?
Our whole day was a lot of fun! Our dog (flower girl) made it down the isle without barking or stopping to sniff around, our nephew (ring barer) opened our symbolic ring box showing our guests that indeed there was no ring in there at all as he walked down the isle, and many of our speeches had our guests just roaring (we had some embarrassing stories!).
DID YOU HAVE A COLOUR THEME? OR ANY OTHER THEME?
Our colour theme was shades of mint and blush, with gold. The bridesmaid dresses were all different shades of mint, it reminded me of the colours of the sea (my favourite thing!). The groomsmen wore grey, and mint. Our décor was a little bit rustic, a little bit elegant, just like our venue!
HOW DID YOU CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING DRESS AND WHO WAS IT BY?
Dress: From Nicholas & Elizabath (London, Ontario)
Style: Casablanca 1975
The dress was chosen after about a week of trying on EVERY different style of dress. When I tried this one on it was perfect. I brought my mom and my groom’s mom with me, and when I saw their reaction to the dress I also knew it was “the one!”
