Our previous real wedding blog post was a treat from California but we’re bringing it back home with this gorgeous wedding in the Cotswolds. The setting, the couple and their photographer typify stunning English beauty with this gorgeous wedding.
Photographed by the incredible Bristol based photographer Jamie Dodd, Judith and Ben’s wedding looked amazing. Aside from being a good-looking couple, this is in part because they seem like such a lovely bride and groom – happy, relaxed people seem to have the best weddings, they bring loving friends and good vibes with them, which you’ll see from these wedding photographs below. But that’s enough yakking from me, lets hear what Judith and Ben have to say for themselves.
LETS START WITH THE VENUE, WHERE DID YOU GET MARRIED AND WHY?
Judith: We got married at the Hare & Hounds Hotel in Westonbirt, Gloucestershire. We have always really liked the Cotswolds and it’s where we met (Cheltenham). The hotel was the perfect venue for us because of its stunning setting, beautiful décor and it meant our guests could dance late into the night without having to worry about taxis etc. We had hoped for a ceremony in the gardens but it had an amazing interior room as a fall back plan.
AND WHEN DID YOU GET MARRIED?
Judith: Our wedding took place on the 15th May 2015. The ceremony started at 2pm to give guests a chance to grab a bite to eat first. It also meant that there was not too much waiting around for the guests between the ceremony and wedding breakfast, yet plenty of time for a few drinks, some nibbles and photos. We knew we wanted to get married in the summer of 2015 and asked for all dates from May until August – the 15th May was the first one available so jumped at it.
Ben: I had started off campaigning for the end of August but eagerness won in the end!
WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER, WAS IT ON YOUR SIDE?
We were very lucky in that The Hare & Hounds had the option of an outdoor ceremony or indoor in case it was too wet. It rained a lot the day before, so even though we had a mostly sunny wedding day, we kept the ceremony indoors. Afterwards everyone went outside to enjoy some sunshine and the lovely grounds of the hotel.
SO HOW DID THE TWO OF YOU GET TOGETHER?
Judith: We met in our first year of university in Cheltenham. We both played basketball there. Apparently I don’t remember the very first time we met but one of the first times I saw Ben was when he was singing to me on a night out just before uni broke up for Christmas. He was on his knees singing “All I want for Christmas is you”. This must have worked on me because two months later we were a couple! Eight years later Ben spontaneously proposed when we having dinner on top of the Space Needle in Seattle.
Ben: That’s our official story but we actually met in the student union bar when Judith was a barmaid (she swears she doesn’t remember this)… she served me the wrong drink!
WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT FROM THE WEDDING?
Judith: There were so many great moments throughout the day that keep coming back to me. The first time I saw Ben’s face after walking up the aisle, listening to the speeches and hearing everyone’s laughs, introducing family and friends to each other, generally just spending the day together with all the people that we care about, some of whom travelled very far to be with us that day.
Ben: Aside from first seeing Judith, I will never forget standing up to do my speech and seeing all of our friends and family all together in one room looking over at me. It was a great feeling to know everyone had come to see us!
One of my favourite bits was when, for just 5 minutes during the drinks reception, Judith and I slipped away to spend sometime with each other with no one else around, just to savour the moment! Short but so very sweet.
WERE THERE ANY MEMORABLE OR FUNNY MOMENTS?
Judith: All the speeches were very funny.
Ben: The best men did indeed nail their speeches but one thing that gave me the giggles in the middle of the ceremony was seeing a friend of ours (aptly nicknamed Daudle) trying to sneak in unnoticed to the back of the room after turning up late. To further reinforce the name… the reason he was late was because he forgot his suit!
WAS THERE A COLOUR THEME, OR ANY OTHER KIND OF THEME?
Judith: We went for a fresh spring colour theme of yellow and blue, although more colours were added as time went by! It all came together nicely anyway.
Ben: Ah, now she tells me! Judith did a great job of ensuring all the details were spot on. I kept clear!
GO ON THEM LETS HEAR ABOUT THE DRESS AND HOW YOU CHOSE IT?
Judith: I chose a Linea Raffaelli dress because of their modern and slightly different style. It’s true what they say, you don’t know which dress is the right one until you have it on. I hadn’t even given this dress a second thought when I saw it. It wasn’t until my mum asked me to try it on that I was sold.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO SAY ABOUT THESE SUPPLIERS, ANY SPECIAL SHOUT-OUTS?

Liz did an amazing job with the cake, the wedding video Mark made us we will treasure forever and the DJs did a phenomenal job.
Ben: Our photographer was great, I hate getting my picture taken but he managed to seamlessly be in the right place at the right time all day, not getting in the way but getting some great shots!
