Pie is back on the menu for the wedding breakfast. You’re planning the living daylights out of your wedding, booking venues organising flowers and choosing cakes, there’s no stopping you. The only time you break away from wedding inspiration on Pinterest and making DIY invitations is for a menu tasting.
The menu choices can sometimes be wonderful, a truly exciting collection of ideas and flavours to fuel your guests. At other times the menu is a car crash of pretentiousness with the hotel’s signature hand glazed something or other nestling in a young pea garden puree. That’s probably why pies have made it back onto the fashionable hot-list.
Maybe it’s got something to do with a taste for fuss free food. Of course it might also have a little something to do with Elton John and David Furnish having beef pie at their December wedding. Ever since Sir Elton upgraded to wedding status from civil partnership, pies have been getting more popular.
We spoke to the very cool pie makers Pieminister. Ahem, the very cool, award winning pie makers, Pieminister. They told us that their enquiries have increased since Elton and Dave went off to wed over the festive period, but whatever the reason pies are becoming a popular choice at weddings.
Anybody that’s ever tasted a Pieminister pie will love the idea of having them at their wedding. They’re not your bog standard pastry lid covered meat feast in a tin, they’re tasty as hell but I couldn’t help thinking that having Pieminister to provide the catering might be overkill. Reassuringly, they explained that three courses of pie might be too much for anybody, suggesting sharing platters to start or exciting twists on classics like crunchy ginger Eton mess as a sweet treat.
And for those of you that were wondering what Sir Elton and David Furnish ate at their wedding it sounded delicious…
