WEDDING ALBUMS ARE THE THING, FORGET ABOUT THE ‘DISC ONLY’ PHOTOGRAPHY PACKAGE

Wedding Albums

You might ask yourself the question, “should I get the album package from my wedding photographer or should I make my own?” the answer is that wedding albums are very, very important.

A lot of photographers offer a variety of packages and this is because not everybody wants an album. That’s to say that not everybody wants to pay a professional wedding photographer for a professional album. The photographer’s packages will include wedding albums, engagement shoots, second photographers and the cheapest option being, ‘disc only’. You might save a few pennies in the scheme of the wider wedding budget but it will cost you a lot of time and possibly be a disappointing experience. If you are thinking about the ‘disc only’ option, think carefully there are a number of reasons why a professional album is better.

MAGIC OF AN ALBUM

Wedding albums are cool. Not the old fashioned ones where the images were physically stuck to the pages with that weird bit of tracing paper (or whatever it was) between the pages. No, I’m talking about the cool leather bound books with the images professionally printed inside.

Apart from looking great, it’s exciting to receive them. Sometime after coming back from your honeymoon, you get to pick up your album and leaf through the pages that your photographer has designed.

OBSOLETE TECHNOLOGY

The tactile pleasure of the turning the pages of a book is a treat in itself, it’s also more time proof than a lot of digital technology. So if you’re thinking about keeping the images on a disc or a memory stick to look at on your laptop when you feel like a bit of wedding nostalgia, think again. The technology used to hold your wedding photographs might one day become obsolete meaning that there might be a time when you can’t actually look at them. Think about it, tape cassettes, VHS, Mini Disc have all come and gone so what’s to say that the CD or USB stick won’t got the same way.

BOOK NOW PAY LATER

If you’re avoiding buying the album because of cost then don’t. Ask your photographer if you can pay for the album after the wedding. Finances seem a bit hectic on approach to the wedding but the first payday after your honeymoon will feel good. The wedding photographer will probably be happy to take payment for the album then.

IF YOU DO GO FOR DISC ONLY THEN ASK FOR HELP

There are a lot mainstream companies online that will produce your wedding album but be warned the print quality might not be as high as your photographer’s products. I recommend avoiding this in favour of the professional product but if you do opt for the disc only package and produce your own album, ask for help. Ask the photographer for a few pointers about layout and presentation to make sure that the album looks as tasteful as possible.
